Event tips and corrections

The submission form sends your event details, notes, and the contact information you provide to Island Happenings through Resend, our email delivery service. We use them to review the event, check a correction, or reply. Tips do not publish automatically, and your contact details are not included in public listings.

Submissions are delivered to our editorial inbox; they are not stored in a submissions database on this website. See Resend’s privacy policy.

The weekly email

Island Happenings uses your email address to send the weekly Vancouver Island events shortlist only when you choose to subscribe and confirm your address. Sending an event or a correction does not sign you up.

The form records the consent wording and version you accepted, and whether you joined from the home page, an event page, or the newsletter page. These records help us honour your choice and understand which invitations are useful.

Where your information goes

Our signup form sends your address and consent information directly to Buttondown, our email service. Buttondown processes subscriber records in the United States and receives browser information, including your IP address, to deliver its service and prevent abuse.

Buttondown manages the confirmation email, subscription status, delivery, and unsubscribe link. Island Happenings can access these records to operate the newsletter and respond to requests. We do not sell our email list.

Unsubscribe, access, or delete

Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. You do not need an account or password to stop future editions. Unsubscribed addresses may remain in a suppression or consent record so we can respect that request.

To ask about your information, correct it, request deletion, or get help unsubscribing, email hello@islandhappenings.ca. We may need to verify that you control the address before changing its records.

Understanding what is useful

The website uses Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate traffic measurement, including visits to the newsletter page. When newsletter event measurement is enabled, it also counts invitation views and form submissions by placement. Submitting the form is not counted as a confirmed subscription.

We do not include your email address or form contents in website analytics. We use Buttondown's subscriber counts and subscription history to understand confirmations and unsubscribes. Email open pixels and individual click tracking are not needed for this.

Who sends the email

The weekly email comes from Island Happenings by Jeromy Mobley. The sender name, mailing address, and a contact route appear beside each signup form and in the footer of every edition.
